Location

Located 35km from the city of Volos, at a 450 meters altitude, you will find one of the most beautiful traditional villages of Pelion, Neochori. It is one of the few villages in the area looking all directions of the horizon as it was built in the center-eastern part of the mountain. The view is spectacular as the visitor can observe the Aegean Sea, the Pagasitikos gulf and the green scenery of the mountain from different parts of the region.

The village is famous for mining plaques and stone, basic raw material for the traditional architecture of the area, of excellent quality, colors and design.

In the center of the village one will find the superb picturesque square, amphitheatrically built in two levels connected by stone stairs. Traditional stoned laid streets and fountains surround the square. This has always been the meeting point for the residents. Restaurants, mini market shops, a kiosk, the liquor store, the pharmacy, the butcher shop and souvenir shops are all found here. Next to the central square, there is the Cern exhibition center, which is based in Switzerland, where you can find the permanent exhibits collection of the famous research center.

The St.Demetrios cathedral-patron of the village-is built on the first level of the square. Built in 1760 with local wood and stone, its interior was decorated by the famous painter from Epirus, Ioannis Pagonis. There are historical and rare relics inside; with most outstanding the wooden temple dating back to 1640.Total renovation of the church began in 2015.

In addition to the abundance of natural wealth and unique view, walking in the area will reveal the incredible architecture of Pelion, with the stone mansions, arched bridges, chapels and monasteries. Some of them are Panagia Kalogianni or Tourkogianni, Panagia Plakiotissa, St.George church, St.Anargyroi, The Nativity of the Virgin church and more.

Pelion is a combination of mountain and sea so the unique location allows the visitor to enjoy the beaches of the Aegean Sea and Pagasitikos gulf in the summer months. There is a wide variety of beaches, organized and free, crowded and very remote ones, easily accessible or others that are only accessible by adventure seekers. Something for everyone! The famous crystal clear waters of Pelion are combined with different kinds of sand, shingle and stone, while the trees bend over the water, as if to cool it off, during the hot summer months! Many of the beaches are connected to gullies, reminding fairies and mythology legends.

The Neochori village is an all season destination, an exceptional combination of mountain and sea, offering the visitors moments of relaxation, fun and beautiful views. It is no coincidence that in mythology Pelion was the resort of the Olympian Gods and various other historical figures. A destination for the elite, in all its simplicity!
